Mussoorie Gateway Resort

These days there are only a few hotels which provide excellent hospitality and stay in a budget. It was our first time in this hotel but the 7th time in mussoorie, we have always booked hotels which were either on the mall road or picture palace.
While surfing down internet we got a look at this hotel and the pricing was mind blowing. Our main priority has always been to book a room which provides a good mountain/valley view with a balcony. This hotel had met all our requirements that too in a lower budget as planned by us.

Mussoorie Gateway is budget a boutique hotel situated 1.3kms approx from the library chowk. They provide you with spacious rooms, clean bathrooms with shower enclosures and all the basic amenities one needs. Parking is not a problem in this hotel as they have their own parking space.
Every room on the first floor has a balcony attached overlooking the Doon Valley & the ground floor rooms have a small porch for sitting. We booked two rooms with them, one on the ground & other on the first floor. The rooms were clean, everything was working and the view was majestic.

We never faces a problem with the In-room service, the food was tasty, no complaints with the lunch, appetizers or dinner. The only problem was with the breakfast, they take too long to prepare it. But please be clear of what you order for breakfast, because everytime they will forget something. The buffet system was not available when we checked inn, but its good for us, we usually prefer in room dining.

Now talking about the vicinity the sitting area on the upper level of the dining all is all about soaking into vitamin D and enjoying the lush green surrounding. One can sit there for hours just enjoying the weather and beauty of mussoorie. The walk arounds the hotel are pretty quaint and taking a walk on the road till the mall road gives you a very pleasant feeling.

Overall the hotel is perfect if you are on a budget trip & the most important thing, the hotel provides mall road pick & drop complimentary.

Hotel Midtown- Mussoorie

Mussoorie has always been on our priority list. When anyone of us thinks about vacation in the mountains, the first place that pops up is Mussoorie. Mussoorie is located in the state of Uttrakhand and is 300 kms from New delhi, approx 7 hour drive. One can also take a train/flight to Dehradun and then cab down to Mussoorie.

This road trip to Mussoorie was a short one and we wanted to book a hotel close to the mall road, but it was the season and all the hotels were sold out. Surprisingly Hotel Midtown was available. Midtown  is situated just on the opposite lane of Picture Palace Road and is 5 minuted walking to the Mall road. All our requirements were fulfilled by this hotel such as Private Parking(Need to be confirmed while check inn), big balcony overlooking Dehradun valley, walking distance to Mall road and in our budget.

We booked two super deluxe rooms and were upgraded to premium room with balcony on a very nominal cost per night. The rooms are neat and clean, the only drawback are their beds which are small for people who are 5.8ft and above. The balcony is huge and a group of three can easily sit and enjoy the nice view of the Valley. You can also book their terrace rooms which are simply amazing as you can sit all night on the terrace, star gaze and enjoy the weather.

Their food and hospitality is just average, no service is available after 10pm and the staff courtesy is a big question, specially their manager. But then we didnt want to create any issue and spoil our vacation, so we ordered food from outside. There is a small shop just beneath the hotel for your daily needs and is open till 11pm, its was our saviour.

Overall we will suggest this hotel if you are looking for a budget stay with clean rooms and near to the mall road.

Top 10 hotels To Book In Mussorie

Mussoorie is a hill station which is visited throughout the year and is located in the Dehradun District of state of Uttarakhand. It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km from New Delhi. This hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of ‘greater Mussoorie’, as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani. Being at an average altitude of 1,880 metres (6,170 ft), Mussoorie, with its green hills and varied flora and fauna, is a fascinating hill.

We have been visiting mussoorie since 2011 and almost every year. There are many areas where you can book your stay ex. Library End, Picture Palace, Landour and Barlowganj. Barlowganj is 5 kms from mall road and mainly has 5 star properties such as Jaypee Residency Manor. Picture Palace is the best area to book your hotel as it nearby to the mall road and the road to landour goes near to picture palace. If you love to stay in serenity and a little away from the hustle bustle then opt for library end, we stayed once on the library side and it was amazing.

We are listing down few properties in which we stayed and which we love-

1) Jaypee Residency Manor- Barlowganj
2) Golden Palms- Picture Palace
3) Rokeby Manor- Landour
4) Dancing Leaves By Sterling- Library Hill
5) Kasmanda Palace- Mall Road
6) Fortune Grace- Library End
7) Mosaic- Picture Palace
8) Welcome Hotel The Savoy- Library End
9) Claridges Nabha- Barlowganj
10) Ivy Bank- Landour

Bijrani Jungle Camp

Corbett is an excellent place to spend a few days in the lap of nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A six hours drive from Delhi, Corbett National Park is among one of the most visited national parks of the country. Our property, Bijrani Jungle Camp, turned out to be one of the best I have stayed in around Corbett. There are 4 zones of Corbett park: Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Sitabani, Dhela & Durga. Corbett Camp is situated just 500mtrs ahead of Bijrani Zone Entry Gate and the best part of the property is that its inside the jungle, not too much in the interiors but you get a good feel of living inside the jungle.

After an easy booking process with The Himalayan Cove, we were excited to be there as soon as possible. Although our trip dates were goofed up by them, they ensured that we dont face any issues during our stay. We did a late Check-In, so the staff ensured that we get our food super fast because our safari jeep was waiting for us. In fact just after our very first lunch, we realized that the food served truly stood out and was simply divine, homemade, finger-licking. Never did either one of us ever think that we would be complaining about overeating by the end of the trip, but we all did.

It was time for the safari, we had booked an evening slot, timing 2-5pm. The entire journey through the jungle was exciting, as we all were doing it for the first time. The picturesque jungle and the landscapes were simply beautiful, each & every moment was filled with adrenaline rush. Every nook and turn that we did made us feel that the next stop we take will be because of the tiger, but unfortunately we did not spot any tiger, BADLUCK. But the entire safari was amazing and we gathered as much memories we could, because not every day one visits a dense forest. All we could spot were all kinds of Deer, Hornbill, Sound of Woodpecker, Big Old trees, Peacock and tiger pug marks.

Coming back to Camp, we had our tea & snacks, took a little detour of the property, which is spread in a huge area, consisting of more than 10 cottages, Dining Hall & Play zone. The rooms are all basic styled, No A/C, but equipped with Desert Coolers. The bathrooms are neat and clean. All the rooms are for TWO people, but it has space for accomodating +1.

Tips: While you check the website Himalayancove you are bound to find some package deals, but I would advise that before making any decision give them a call as you are likely to find a better deal with more options. Be sure that the dates given by you are clearly mentioned by them as same.
No 3g/4g coverage in the area.

Two Chimneys- Gethia

This place is nestled in the lush green village called Gethia near Nainital. The name Two Chimneys coincides with the two chimneys they have in their vicinity. It is a perfect example of silence and beauty.

As soon as you park your car in their private parking area you start getting positive vibes for the place. The lush green lawns are beautifully managed and it feels very relaxing for the whole body when you enter such a pleasant and soothing environment. When you enter the resort, you can see the dining area and their drawing room which is pretty and specially made for book readers. The dining area is huge and they have laid the tables everywhere, even in their lawn for the people who want privacy while dining. Then you climb up and enter their pool area which is their best part. Once you sit by the pool and enjoy the chirping of birds and the majestic views of the Kumaon Foothills, life will automatically be sorted. You don’t feel like leaving the calmness around yourself and go back to your room; we surely did not go back.

They have different room categories and every room has a different vibe and colour.
We were 4 people travelling and had booked their Deodar Room. This room has 1 bedroom with king size bed, 1 living room, 1 washroom and there is bed laid it their attic. The attic can only be used by people with average height but it is the most peaceful area in the whole suite. Every nook and corner of this suite has been perfectly utilised and the comfort level is 100%. If you are travelling with a big family, then you can book their Ridge Bungalow which has 4 rooms and can be entirely yours with separate parking as well. There is a room called The Nest which has a private balcony and is perfect for couples.

The entire place is brilliantly maintained and the staff is very courteous. The hospitality is far top notch, not even once we faced any problem. Do not over feed yourself with the food here because they make it with loads of love, so every meal is worth tasting, do not miss out on any!

One Partridge Hill- A Hideaway

One Partridge Hill is built on a hill top in a small village called Satoli. Satoli is a very tiny populated village nestled in the Kumaon Region of Uttrakhand. You can reach this place via Bhimtal taking the road that leads to Almora. One Partridge Hill is not just a homestay, it is a luxury retreat nestled in the lap of nature. This homestay is 330 kms from Delhi and is easy to find if the instructions are followed properly. We booked 2 nights and were satisfied with their hospitality and services. The owners have actually put their sweat and blood in building this property, you easily get to know as soon as you enter the premises. One Partridge Hill makes sure that you get the ultimate comfort and tranquillity without any sense of let down. This is the only property in the vicinity with wheel chair accessibility.

They have 4 rooms, all different from each other and a common living area adjoining the dining room. There is a great positivity in the environment of this village and one can actually breathe fresh air. The rooms are really comfortable and the quality is not compromised anywhere, even the toiletries are top notch, that is what is expected when you pay a good amount for a night. There are not many attractions nearby but you have different trails to follow. Bird watching and trekking will be the most common thing there, but honestly you don’t need anything other than that. The view in the night is spectacular and if you love star gazing, hop on and reach this place immediately.

We were provided the room on the second floor which also had a small private terrace referred as Parakeet. The room had all the basic amenities and is perfect for a couple. The washroom is fitted with modern fittings, 24 hours running water, shower enclosure and solar powered geyser for your hot water requirement. The room is cosy with twin bedding, you can join it and make it into a queen size bed. The balcony provides a stunning view of Almora and it shines in the night, the view is mesmerizing. The Kanatal Orchids

Uttrakhand is a popular state which is blessed with the beauty of Himalayan Mountain Ranges,  Holy River Ganga & Yamuna, famous Hindu & Sikh pilgrimage Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Haridwar, Rishikesh & Hemkund Sahib. Uttrakhand also has a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site ‘Valley of Flowers’, Asia’s Largest Dam called Tehri Dam and the famous Jim Corbett National Park. Uttrakhand is culturally divided into two regions i.e Kumaon and Garhwal. Places like Nainital, Almora, Kasauni come under Kumoun region and places Kanatal, Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Uttarkashi etc come under Garhwal region.

This time we wanted a vacation which we thought will be different from all our other trips. So we came across a beautiful hill station Kanatal (Ka-Na-Taal), a small village situated in the Tehri- Garhwal district. It is a very famous site for camping and is considered to be very clean and pollution free.  Kanatal is 320kms from Delhi and 70kms from Rishikesh taking the Chamba-Mussoorie hill road which also leads to Yamunotri and Gangotri. It is a stunning village surrounded by mountains and forests with scenic views.

After doing a thorough research on our accommodation, we picked a wonderful campsite, ‘The Kanatal Orchids’. This camp is 10kms from Chamba district near the famous The Terraces Resort.

The Kanatal Orchids, a beautiful camp site is situated on the foothills with a magnificent view of the Himalayan range. There is a short trek which leads you to the camp walking besides the nature. We were welcomed by the owner, Mr Nikhil Dhyani, who grew up in the mountains itself and has a great passion towards conserving the eco-system and running this beautifully built campsite. To reach the campsite you need to take a short trek/walk right past the flora and fauna. Once you reach the campsite, all you can hear is birds chirping, silence and the majestic views. You have options of Swiss tents on double, triple and quad sharing basis with attached western style washrooms. We stayed here for two nights and it felt like another home to us. The food was typical home cooked which was delicious and the peace at the camp was just overwhelming. There is a specific time duration for the meals and they are really strict about it, which is great. As everyone knows that water is scarce in the hills, but the camp provides you enough water for your urge and daily needs. There is a specific time duration for the meals and they are really strict about it, which is great. If you want to enjoy some silence and clear your mind, you should definitely come here.

Backpack Tips: What you should not forget:
1.  Sports shoes
2. Towel
3. Toiletries( Soap, Brush, Toilet Roll etc)
4. Sunscreen

There is a guest house run by the same people known as ‘Goodluck Homestay’. It is just 10kms before Kanatal Orchids & provides you a cosy stay with a very nominal cost.

Pacific Hotel- Mussoorie

Hello Everyone,

So today I’am going to share another adventure of mine from my travel blogging experience. So I need a break from work and was thinking of going to Mussoorie with my gang. I have been to Mussoorie many a times, it’s like a second home but I have never been to the famous Camel’s Back Road and this time we thought of staying there. So after a thorough R&D we came across a property called Pacific Hotels on the Camel’s Back Road. This 11 month old property is a baby to a 15 year old Pacific Hotel in Dehradun. The 4 star hotel has gained lot of love from Dehradun and have recently opened up a new property in Mussoorie.

Those who don’t know, Camel’s Back Road isn’t far from the main Mussoorie Mall Road, in fact it’s at a walking distance but the beauty of this area is that it’s completely secluded from the hustle-bustle of the mall road. Another reason for opting for this property was the view. The hotel has the best view of the lower Himalayas from most of the rooms. Also what makes the experience so blissful is the fact that the area is lush green and very peaceful. The quiet and calm area enables you to enjoy more (at least for me it worked).

We booked 2 suites and they were beautiful. Very minimalistic and a view to kill

for. The room consisted of:

– A dining area.
– A drawing room with a view.
– A working table with a view.
– A small kitchen area.
– A master bedroom.

– 2 bathrooms.

The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The suite can accommodate 3-4 people as apart from the master bedroom there is a sofa cum bed too. The view from my room was spectacular which made it hard for me to leave the room.  What I really liked about my room was the large windows where I spent most of my time. The whole experience of sipping tea with the view of the hills was exactly what I was looking forward to.

What made my whole experience so good was the hospitality of the hotel. The staff left no stone unturned in order to provide us with the best service. The management and the staff was not only courteous but very warm and welcoming too. Since I just didn’t want to leave my room, it was nice of them to serve my meals in my room only.

They had every intention of spoiling us I guess, because the food was so scrumptious. From Indian food to Chinese, every meal I had was just amazing. In fact the food of the hotel was so good, that for the very first time I didn’t have a proper meal at the mall road or any other restaurant for that matter and that’s saying something.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The overall experience was blissful. From the rooms , the view, the food, the service, the management and staff, everything was so good that it made my trip a memorable one. This property is a must visit on my list because in comparison to the properties on the mall road, it has a better view and is greener. Also there is a difference in the temperature of around 2 degrees down in comparison to the mall road area which is another reason I loved it. They have a total of 30 rooms wherein you can choose amongst the Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Suite category. Just a walking distance away from the mall road, this property is worth a visit. My travel buddy Ruchika Das wrote about this hotel too.

Do read what my friend SURUCHI has to say about Country Inn Mussoorie.
